Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS)
Introduction
The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS), organised by Hwa Chong Institution, is an annual event that sets out to generate greater interest in Mathematics among pupils in primary schools and sharpening their problem-solving skills.
The inaugural Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School (SMOPS) was successfully administered in 1990.
In 1993, Zi Qiang Investments Limited donated the Kong Chian Challenge Trophy in memory of the past Chairman of the Board of Management, the late Dato Lee Kong Chian, their mentor and our benefactor.
In 2002, SMOPS was renamed APMOPS to include overseas centres from Asia-Pacific countries.
Henceforth, there are two rounds of competition for APMOPS. The first round is held in the respective local schools and overseas centres in early April. Top scorers for the first round of competition from local and overseas centres will be invited to the Invitation Round of APMOPS which is held in the last week of the first semestral school term in Singapore to compete for the top positions.
APMOPS 2026
The online APMOPS First Round competition will be held at various centres across the Asia-Pacific region. The competition for Singapore P6 students and Malaysian schools, will be held on Thursday, 16 April 2026, at the premises of the schools with participating students. The competition for Singapore P5 students and all other overseas centres will be held on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
A trial with sample quiz will be conducted from Monday, 9 March to Friday, 20 March, for participants to familiarise with the competition site.
The 2026 APMOPS Invitation Round will be held on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
