Schools will be informed of the Group Numbers and session of all eligible participants one week prior to the competition. 

Registered participants who have not settled their payments by 30th March 2018 will not be allowed to participate, and will not be given an index number.


4.    Eligibility


SMOPS 
All participants must be born between 2nd Jan 2006 and 1st Jan 2007, both dates inclusive, or Primary 6 students born after 1st Jan 2007.

Junior SMOPS 
Selected Primary 5 students (up to 5 students per school) born after 1st Jan 2006.


5.    Scoring of Competition Papers

The total mark for the competition paper will be 150 marks, which are allotted as follows:

Questions   1 to 10:    4 marks each

Questions 11 to 20:    5 marks each

Questions 21 to 30:    6 marks each

There will be no deduction of marks for error or omissions. Marks will be awarded for correct answers only.


6.    Instructions for Participants

a)   All participants must report for the competition in full school uniform.

b)   All participants must bring along their student identification cards or passports for identification purposes.

c)   All participants must bring their own stationery.

d)   The use of calculators, mathematical sets or mathematical tables is not allowed during the competition.

 

7.    Prizes


Individual Prizes


a)   Individual winners will qualify for the following awards:


i)    Platinum Award Certificates and plaques will be awarded to the top 1.5% participants with exceptionally outstanding performance that meets the minimum requirements set by the judges.


ii)   Gold Award Certificates will be awarded to participants whose results are the next 2.5% of the field.


iii)  Silver Award Certificates will be awarded to participants whose results are the next 6% of the field, and


iv)  Bronze Award Certificates will be awarded to the subsequent 10% of the field.


v)   Others will receive a certificate of participation.


b)   20 Individual Prizes will be awarded to the top 20 participants:


The details of the prizes are as follows:

      • 1st Prize: $500 and 1 plaque
      • 2nd Prize: $400 and 1 plaque
      • 3rd Prize: $300 and 1 plaque
      • 4th-10th Prize: $200 and 1 plaque
      • 11th-20th Prize: $100 and 1 plaque
In addition, Five Honourable Mention Awards, the prize of which will be a plaque each, will also be awarded to five outstanding participants.

c)   Individual winners for Junior SMOPS:

i)    Platinum Award Certificates and plaques will be awarded to the top 1.5% Junior SMOPS participants with exceptionally outstanding performance that meets the minimum requirements set by the judges.

Team Prizes

Three Team Prizes will be awarded to the top three schools that are ranked according to the total score of their top three pupils in the SMOPS.

First Prize:

 

$1000 in cash and 1 plaque per winner; 1 trophy and the Kong Chian Challenge Trophy for the school

Second Prize:

$500 in cash and 1 plaque per winner; 1 trophy for the school

Third Prize:

$300 in cash and 1 plaque per winner; 1 trophy for the school


Three Honourable Mention Team Awards, the prizes of which are a plaque for each top three scorers and one trophy for the school, will also be awarded to three outstanding schools.

The Champion School shall keep the Kong Chian Challenge Trophy and shall return it to Hwa Chong Institution for the next competition. The Challenge Trophy shall be kept permanently by the school, which emerges champion in three consecutive Olympiads.

 

8.    Announcement of Winners

a) Results of the SMOPS 2018 will be posted on the website apmops.hci.edu.sg/results  by 1st May 2018.

b) The top 4% participants, or the top 150 participants, whichever is lower, will be invited to compete in the Invitation Round on 26th May 2018. Junior SMOPS participants will be invited if they fall within the top 4%.

c) There will not be a separate junior category in the Invitation Round.


9.    Registration  

a)   The registration fee per student is $40/- [inclusive of GST] and registration opens from 22nd January 2018 until 23th February 2018. An additional late payment fee of $20 per student [inclusive of GST] will be levied for all submissions after 23th February 2018 and the submission will be subjected to availability. No submissions will be allowed after 2nd March 2018.

b)    Registration is to be carried out by filling in the stipulated excel worksheet attachment which will be emailed to the school. Kindly email back the excel worksheet to smops@hci.edu.sg on or before 22th February 2018. Names of registered participants will be uploaded on the online portal based on the completed excel worksheet emailed back to HCI. Teachers in-charge may view, edit, add or delete the participants of their own schools at the online portal from 22nd January 2018 onwards, using the customised login ID and password provided. Registration will close on 23th February 2018. No editing or deletion will be allowed after this date.

c)    Registrations will be taken as confirmed only upon receipt of payment.

i.    E-invoice will be sent via the IFAAS system. Payment must be paid via IFAAS or Cheque and should be made on or before 30th March 2018, Friday, failing which the places registered by the school will be forfeited.

ii.    Payment by cheque should be made by using only ONE cheque for the registration fee of all the participants. The cheque should be addressed to 'Hwa Chong Institution'. Please indicate 'SMOPS 2018', e-invoice number, name of your school and number of participants behind the cheque.

iii.    Payment by IFAAS should indicate the HCI AGD Vendor id: 'MOE 0101022' correctly.

10.    Closing Date  


All registrations will be closed on 23th February 2018. Late charges apply after the closing date. No submission will be allowed after 2nd March 2018.

 

 

11.    Certificate


All certificates will be printed according to the names submitted during registration. An administrative fee of $10 will be levied on any request to re-print the SMOPS certificates.

Competition details for APMOPS 2018 Invitation Round (26 May 2018)

 

1.    Date of Competition

        Saturday, 26th May 2018

2.    Venue of Competition

3.     Eligibility

The top 4% of the participants or the top 150 participants, whichever is lower, in Round 1 of the local competition (SMOPS) will be invited for the Invitation Round.

Up to top 10 participants from each overseas centre will also be invited for the Invitation Round.


*All participants must be primary school students and they must be born between 2nd Jan 2006 and 1st Jan 2007, both dates inclusive, Primary 6 students born after 1st Jan 2007 or Primary 5 students born after 1st Jan 2006 for Singapore schools.

For overseas centres with the school year commencing in June/July: Participants must be primary school students born between 1st July 2005 and 30th June 2006, both dates inclusive, or Primary 6 students born after 30th June 2006.

Overseas participants who had previously participated in APMOPS are not allowed to participate again.

 

4.    Fees 

There will be no additional fees incurred.

 

5.    Scoring of Competition Papers

[a] The total marks will be 60.

[b] There will be 6 problem sums. All working must be clearly shown.

[c] Omission of working will result in loss of marks.

 

6.    Instructions for Participants

[a]  All participants must report for the competition in full school uniform. Those not wearing school uniform will not be allowed to take part.

[b]  All local participants must bring along their Student Identification Cards, or Bus concession cards. The identity of all overseas participants will be verified using their passports.

[c]  All participants must bring their own stationery.

[d] The use of calculators, mathematical sets or mathematical tables is NOT allowed during the competition.


7.    Prizes

A total of 40 Individual Prizes will be awarded to the top 40 participants in the Invitation Round (APMOPS). The details of the prizes are as follows:

1st Prize:

$1000 and 1 medal

2nd Prize:

$800 and 1 medal

3rd Prize:

$500 and 1 medal

4th  -  5th Prize:

$300 and 1 medal

6th  -  10th Prize:

$100 and 1 medal

11th  -  40th Prize:

1 medal per award

 All prize winners must be in full school uniform to receive the prizes.

 

8.    Announcement of Winners

The winners of the Invitation Round will be announced on 26th May 2018 at the Prize Presentation Ceremony.
